At any meeting or event held at a Marriott property, you have the ability to access select carbon offset projects through our contracted vendor, South Pole.

For nearly a century, Marriott has been committed to its core value of serving our world as we strive to be a force for good wherever we do business.

Marriott’s sustainability strategy is focused on a wide range of tactics including designing resource-efficient hotels, implementing technologies to track and reduce energy and water consumption, as well as waste and food waste, increasing the use of renewable energy, managing water-related risks, focusing on third-party sustainability certifications at the hotel-level, supporting innovative ecosystem restoration initiatives, and implementing responsible and local sourcing.

Marriott's focus on sustainability extends to meetings and events through the integration of sustainable practices such as linen-less meeting tables, energy efficient digital signage, and food waste reduction, to name a few.

These initiatives help to minimize our environmental footprint by cutting down on energy and water usage and reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills.

MARRIOTT’S CLIMATE ACTION JOURNEY

With the impact of climate change being seen and felt across the globe, Marriott has been on a journey to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in our operations and supply chain. As of April 2024, Marriott is the largest global hospitality company to receive approval from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for both near-term and long-term science-based emissions reduction targets (SBTs).

To drive progress toward its SBTs, Marriott launched the company’s Climate Action Program (CAP), which includes property-level carbon reduction goals and focus areas. Through Marriott’s Sustainable Practices and Resilient Operations Update Tracker, known as SPROUT, we also provide properties with additional sustainability actions and operational practices so they can work towards reducing their carbon footprint.

These actions and practices support the Connect Responsibly program by helping to reduce carbon emissions behind the scenes.

CONTRIBUTING TO CARBON OFFSET PROJECTS

As part of the Connect Responsibly program, Marriott takes its offerings a step further by providing customers with access to carbon offset projects. Marriott's consultants undertake a rigorous vetting process of verified carbon offset projects across the globe, available via our contracted vendor, South Pole. A select list of projects is then included on the South Pole web shop, allowing customers the option to include carbon offsets as part of their event, and choose which project their event supports.
